Starting situations

The situations faced by project teams are recognisable.

  • a new EMS needs to be defined around the parameters, areas and uses to cover
  • an existing system needs to evolve, expand or become better documented
  • user requirements, architecture and testing activities are not sufficiently connected
  • sensors, hardware and interfaces with the existing environment need to be assessed
  • mapping or qualification work needs to be prepared within the project
  • quality documentation needs to be created, revised or brought back into alignment
  • commissioning and handover to operational teams need to be anticipated
  • responsibilities across the client, MAJ Solutions, a supplier and other parties need to be clarified

These situations do not assume that we supply the software, hardware, every validation activity or complete system support.

Support scope that may be mobilised

Six dimensions, combined according to the project stage and the responsibility assigned to us.

Analysis and architecture

Clarify the requirements, monitoring scope, parameters, expected functions, users, constraints and system architecture.

Sensors and hardware

Define measurement points and the necessary hardware. Where included in the assignment, support may also cover the selection or supply of the defined components.

Integration and mapping

Prepare or coordinate system integration within its environment and perform the mapping activities planned for the project.

Quality documentation

Prepare or revise the required documents and maintain consistency across requirements, design, testing and results within the boundaries of the assignment.

Validation and qualification

Prepare or execute the validation or qualification activities defined for the project. Their nature and attribution are confirmed for each assignment.

Commissioning and support

Prepare commissioning, support stabilisation and organise the planned handover or post-start-up support where these activities form part of the scope.

These dimensions form neither six standard packages nor a required sequence.

What an EMS project must connect

Several dimensions must remain coherent throughout the project.

  • the monitored parameters and their connection to intended uses
  • the relevant areas, equipment or conditions
  • the needs of users and quality, technical or operational teams
  • measurement points, sensors and their physical integration
  • required functions, alarms and expected responses
  • necessary exchanges with existing equipment or systems
  • data management, traceability and use according to the context
  • requirements, design, testing and handover documents
  • planned validation, qualification or commissioning activities

The word interfaces refers here to the technical exchanges and dependencies to define. It carries no promise to design or supply supervisory interfaces.

Documentation built around the project lifecycle

Several families of deliverables are documented.

  • user, functional or design specifications
  • testing, validation or qualification plans
  • protocols and reports associated with the planned activities
  • traceability matrix
  • user documentation

This list is not a standard dossier. The documents produced, their format, level of detail, approval and our responsibility are defined for each assignment.

EMS and mapping, connected but distinct

The EMS organises monitoring over time. Mapping characterises equipment or an area during a defined campaign. An EMS project may also mobilise:

  • an engineering study to clarify requirements, architecture, interfaces and documentation
  • configurable systems or automation where technical functions need to be integrated
  • industrial electrical work for defined physical connections or installation activities
  • expertise in project management, design, validation, qualification, commissioning and start-up

Regulated environments and applicable requirements

In a regulated environment, EMS design and verification consider system use, the criticality of measurements and data, and the documentation expectations that apply. Our capabilities in GxP project management, computerised systems validation, EMS qualification, commissioning and field coordination support these projects. They do not mean that every assignment follows the same standard, includes every qualification stage or assigns final responsibility for compliance to us.
